Kovalam
Beach near Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) is a fine blend of sun, sand
and warm saltwater.
If
you get tired of lying on the beach, soaking up the sun and floating in
the warm sea, there’s always shopping for trinkets and
meeting the locals
(who will  most
likely initiate a conversation whether you’re
interested or not). One thing they have
on offer is canoe rides around the cove, a most basic form of Watertravel
experience that is well worth the few rupees they ask.
We stayed at the
hotel Leela
Kempinski Kovalam Beach, which is somewhat pricey when
compared to others in the area but a bargain compared to beachfront
lodging in many other tropical resorts around the world. It is air
conditioned and
designed to give a sense of privacy in rooms with spacious, walled
verandahs.
